Scrapbook Adhesives
Unless you are going totally digital you are going to need scrapbook adhesives for your scrapbook page layouts. What you use depends on what you are affixing to the page. You will also find your favorites that you will reach for over and over. I love my Dotto adhesive! And of course you will want to be sure that whatever types of scrapbook adhesives you use are acid free and photo safe for scrapbooking. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find your scrapbook supplies.
You Will Need Paper Adhesives to Start With
These can range from glue sticks and double sided-tape to my favorite Herma adhesive, the Dotto repositionable. Dotto adhesive is safe for your pictures if it's the repositionable kind, and if you lay it down where you don't want it you can just rub it off, kind of like rubber cement. Too cool! Dotto adhesive also comes in a permanent variety, too.
Double-Sided Tape
Double-sided tape is just what it sounds like, a tape that "sticks" on both sides. For use as a scrapbook adhesive it usually comes in a roller to make it easy to lay down. It is a pretty strong adhesive and can be used to adhere things with a little more weight or texture. Other fun ways would be to lay it down and then apply some ribbon or beads or sand over the top.
Mounting Squares and Photo Tabs
These usually come as peel-and-stick or roll-on options, and are super to use on your photographs and other light-weight decorative elements.
Glue Dots
These come in a range of sizes and are pretty strong, so you can use these for bulkier and heavier items.
Foam Squares
These help to give dimension to your photograph or embellishment by "lifting" it up off the page a little. They come in different sizes and again are great for those heavier elements.
Vellum Tape and Other Transparent Adhesives
When you are using vellum or other transparent items in your scrapbooking, the last thing you want to have is the scrapbook adhesive showing through. Vellum Tape and other transparent adhesives are designed to disappear behind most vellum papers and other transparent items.
Glue Stick - An Old Friend
Glue sticks are easy to use and you probably already have some laying around from other craft projects. They are great for attaching photos, ribbons, chipboard, and of course paper and cardstock. Be sure not to put too much on... sometimes it will "clump" and then you'll have a raised bump under your photo or paper.
Spray Adhesive
I have never used a spray adhesive, but I would think it would be great for large areas or transparent items.
Heritage Photos Require a Little More Care
If you are working on
heritage scrapbooking
you will either want to have copies made of the photographs and store the originals in a safe place, or use photo corners to add these treasured pictures to your pages. The photo corners are adhered to the page instead of the photograph, and the corners of the picture slides into the photo corners. This makes them removable. This is a great option for any of your heirloom memorabilia documents, also.
