Paper Punch Art
Paper punch art is a fun and easy way to add paper piecing dimension and unique and creative elements to your scrapbooking. Instead of freehand cutting out your pieces, or tracing a pattern and cutting it, you can just punch your art out!
Get all your punches in front of you and maybe even start punching out some of the shapes in various colors to lay in front of you to study. In the beginning you might start out with basic shapes to make some cute punch art animals or flowers or bugs, such as the ladybug at right. Keep your scissors handy, though, you may need them.
After a while and some experimenting you'll begin to see other things you can make by folding or cutting out just a bit of the shape. Notice a portion of the snowflake stamp was used to make the antenna for the ladybug and the feet on the penguin. And if you need something you don't have a punch for, then use your scissors. My son just cut out a triangle for the beak on the penguin.
To the right we used a large flower stamp, cut out the middle, and brought the top and bottom closer together to make an oblong scalloped shape for the fur on the poodle's head.
Get the kids involved! Children have quite an imagination and are very creative, and might be able to see something in a punch that you might not. And it's a blast trying to come up with different ways to make unique flowers or animals or even complete scenes!
What have you done with your punches lately?
