My Motivational Scrapboard Recipe

My Seaside Lifestyle Motivational Board

My Seaside Lifestyle Motivational Board

Out of sight, out of mind I say...

I used to make up goal books for this and goal books for that until I thought one day...I never read them! All that trouble and nobody, including me, sees anything. Reminded me of those photo albums stuck away in the cupboard and only brought out on that very rare occasion.

And so was born The Motivational Scrapboard. These are an easy conglomerate of bits and pieces, pictures, magazine cutouts, shapes, cardboard, material, photos, awards, and the list goes on and on.

So how do you make a Motivational Scrapboard?
It's easy...

The Motivational Scrapboard Recipe

The Ingredients

  • Old framed picture(size, your choice). You can find these at garage sales, fetes, thrift shops/Op shops, even friends or family. They usually have the hanging hook already attached so you can hang your creation. Paint the frame up or leave as is. You may be lucky to find one with its glass intact(no good if you are going to stick a 3-dimensional thing-a-me-bob onto the picture, eg a starfish etc).

  • Cut out pictures from magazines, calendars, books, or newspapers that remind you about the topic you are storyboarding about.

  • Have ready your motivational words, cut out and ready to place in that exact spot to get your attention.
Tip: Invest in a laminator and laminating sheets, They are so cheap these days. Place a selection of your cut out words into the laminated pocket and put it through the laminator. Cut your words out. You can even leave a border of clear laminate around the words; this makes it a lot easier to work with your word cutouts.

  • Thing-a-me-bobs. Now, these can be anything from dried flowers, shells, sea-glass, starfish, craft bits, sandpaper (makes for a great beach sand look), fabric, wool, wrapping paper bits, postage stamps, mementos, in fact anything that goes with your topic.

  • Craft glue, sticky tape, and drawing pins.

  • A hot melt glue gun...an essential ingredient, just be careful not to drop hot glue onto your skin, it hurts!

  • Optional: Clear gloss spray can.

The Doings

1. Lay the frame flat and place your photos, pictures, and thing-a-me-bobs wherever your eye directs. I like to overlay my pictures.
2. When happy with the layout just glue, stick, and tape away.
3. Place the motivational words wherever they need to go and glue, stick, or tape them on.
4. If you want to, give the lot a spray with clear gloss.

And there you have it, your very own Motivational Scrapboard!

Now, where are you going to put your creation? Somewhere where you will see it everyday. After all you do want to stay motivated, don't you?

What A Great Motivational Scrapboard!
by: Mary

This is such an excellent idea and would work for so many other ideas! We homeschool and would use this sort of idea for unit studies of various topics, that is if we get some summertime free-time! Squeezing in extra projects takes time, but now that we know the idea we can blend it in next year.

I think that this would be a great background idea for shadow boxes. I am saving trinkets and mementos so that some day I can have a shadowbox for each child. I think that that would make an excellent wedding gift for them one day.
