Heritage Scrapbook

Organization is Key

Organization is essential when making a heritage scrapbook, and is especially true of the photographs and other items you may wish to include since you may not personally know the people you are scrapbooking about. You'll want photographs and memorabilia organized by date because you will most likely want to scrap them in chronological order. One option for filing your pictures are photo boxes. You can organize them by decade or era, narrowing them down as much as possible. Be sure to organize your memorabilia in the same way, keeping them grouped somehow with the related photos. This is a great extended family project as some family members may be more familiar with certain photographs and different members might be able to contribute information about others. Plus it's just a good excuse to get the family together! :-)

Embellishments of Love

Remember, the words you use while journaling should accent your pages to create the finest result. While visiting family for photos you may also want to record any stories of those you plan to include in your heritage scrapbooks. For instance, you may wish to write different stories concerning their childhoods, adolescence years, how they met their spouse, their form of vocation, and so on. If you can get any one of them to hand write their own stories or recollections of others it is all the better. Adding such writing embellishments enhances the gazing back to a special place and time for any scrapbook viewer. Learning the story behind all those family photographs is much easier when you include information concerning who the person is, what they may have been doing at the time, as well as when it happened.

Remember to include the large events as well as daily events when creating your scrapbooks. You want to include the sad stories in with the happy stories as they occurred when possible, as this adds a sense of personal uniqueness, not only to your family but to your heritage scrapbooks as well.

Scrapbooking is a creatively resourceful means of recording your family history with photographs and corresponding stories and memorabilia. Scrapbooking has evolved. The digital age is here and the possibilities are endless in what you can do to create your own stunning scrapbook to compliment your thoughts and feeling of family unity.
