Disneyland Facts. Disneyland Trivia. Disney World Secrets.

Weave some interesting Disneyland facts -- and Disney World secrets -- into your scrapbooking to add a unique feel to your layouts. Maybe you have some pictures featuring Disneyland attractions, your kids screaming on Disneyland rides like Splash Mountain or having breakfast with the Disneyland characters.

Have you ever wondered how the characters appear or disappear from one part of the park to another? Why don't you ever see any delivery trucks there? What is the largest Disney theme park? And exactly how tall is the Tower of Terror?

Read on for the answers to these and many other fascinating Disneyland facts.

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination.” - Albert Einstein

While walking in his Kingdom one day, Walt Disney noticed a character in an area of the park that didn't belong, and began thinking about a number of improvements he could make to his next project, Walt Disney World Resort. He decided that he needed to hide any vehicles coming or going from the parks' many shops and businesses. He needed a way to remove all the trash that accumulated, without the look or the smell. One of the most important things, employees had to be able to move around the park quickly, easily, and without being seen, or without children seeing two of the same character together, Goofy without his head, or Snow White and Cinderella having lunch together. He also didn't want cast members from Adventure Land being seen moving through some other area, like Fantasy or Future Land.

Why do you not see any delivery trucks?

Instead of digging tunnels under the resort, Walt Disney created a vast complex of corridors, meeting rooms, and even a separate nine-acre network so that cast members can move around the park without being seen. With its fifteen-foot high ceilings, there was enough room for all the electrical and other utilities. This complex centers under the castle, then spreads out to each of the other lands. There are kitchens, locker rooms, cafeterias, fire and rescue, as well as many other areas.

Even though you would think this was all underground, you wouldn't be entirely right. In actuality, the theme park was built on top of the massive complex. When the Seven Seas Lagoon was excavated, the soil was moved on top and the rest of the park built on top of it all. In fact, the whole park is actually considered the second floor, with Fantasy Land being on the third floor.

Did you know that all the wastewater produced at the park is recycled?

Solid waste and liquids are separated and the solids are used as fertilizer for their tree farm, which supplies all the trees that landscape the park. The liquid waste is naturally cleansed by growing hydrangeas in it, and finally used in the sprinkler system. Now you know why there are signs that say, "This is not drinking water." It's a good thing your weren't tempted, isn't it?

Where does all the garbage go?

Each day the garbage is sorted and all of the recyclable materials, aluminum cans, plastic, and glass are separated and sent to recycling.

How do all the employees know where they are going?

Not only are the areas color coordinated, but they also show pictures and names of the different lands for workers who are colorblind.

Other Disney Secrets

Here's another not-so-known Disneyland fact. Somewhere in New Orleans there is an exclusive club that only a select few with a specially numbered card can get in. It is said that Walt Disney held parties at this restaurant. You can only get into this club if you know someone high up in the Disney family, or certain celebrities, and it is rumored that you may have to wait 80 years to get in!

House of the Future

The original "House Of The Future," originally built by a man named Monsanto, was made entirely of plastic, with large rounded corners. After realizing that homes weren't going to be made of plastic, they decided to demolish it with a wrecking ball. To their surprise, when it took the first hit the ball actually bounced off, the plastic structure was so durable! They even had to take apart the house manually! Can you imagine if all buildings were made this way?

A Forced Perspective

One of the most fascintating Disneyland facts: Have you ever noticed when you are walking down Main Street towards the castle it seems like the street goes on forever? Or as you're leaving that the street seems to end a bit too soon? This is what is called a forced perspective, and created on purpose. All the windows on the upper floors of all the street-facing buildings are significantly smaller than the first floor windows. All of them were also built at a slight angle towards the castle, giving the feeling that the street is longer or shorter, depending on which way you are standing.

The Tower of Terror

The Tower of Terror was planned higher than it now stands at 199 feet. It was shortened because it would have required a flashing light to warn low flying planes and it would have taken away from the frightening theme, so they decided to build it just under the legal limit.

More Disneyland Facts

Spaceship Earth is the tallest structure at Disney World, at over 240 feet.

With the Tree Of Life at its center and spanning 500 acres, Animal Kingdom Park is Disney's largest theme park and the largest animal-themed park in the world. The Tree itself is 14 stories high and 50 feet wide at its base.

Even if you stayed in a different room every night, it would take over 72 years to get through all of the guest rooms in the resorts and hotels that are open at Disney World right now.
