The Best Scrapbooking Album?
What is the best scrapbooking album? Well, that really depends on your preference, and there are a number of factors to consider: size, what is the album made of, what type of binding is it, etc.
Personally, some of the best scrapbooking albums for me are the 12 x 12 three-ring albums because you can fit a lot of photos on the larger pages, and with the rings it's easy to add or remove pages. 12 x 12 is probably the most popular size, so you will be able to find an infinite variety of styles of album covers such as leather, cloth, designed for kids, etc.
I also love the smaller album sizes because you can often start and complete one in a few hours, and they make great gifts!
Of course, you can make your own albums, and these can be the most fun and creative of all! Usually these are smaller and more theme-based. Hand-made albums also are the best scrapbooking albums, and the sky is the limit on your creativity. Check out our

Post-Bound Scrapbook Albums
Post-bound albums allow pages to lie flat when open, two pages next to each other. This creates the look of one larger "spread," which is great if the two pages are coordinating with pictures, topic, etc. The posts can be taken out for adding or removing pages. These albums generally use top-loading page protectors to which the completed pages are inserted.
Three-Ring Scrapbook Albums
Three-ring albums don't have quite the "finished" look of a post-bound album, they look more like the notebook you used in school. They also are a little larger to accommodate the rings. However, they do make it easier to quickly remove or add pages, and I like that. When open the pages don't lie next right to each other, though. Again, this system generally uses top-loading page protectors into which the completed pages are inserted.
Strap-Hinge Albums
Strap-hinge albums are bound together with flexible straps and allow the pages to lay next to each other, giving the appearance of a larger "spread" like the post-bound albums. Usually the pages are directly bound into the album and then you can place a page protector over it if you choose, although you can find strap-hinge albums that use top-loading page protectors where the page is inserted into the protector.
Although these albums look nice I think they are the hardest for adding or removing pages. I also don't like that the pages are directly bound into the book as opposed to the page protectors, which makes it much more difficult and time consuming to change the order of pages. You also scrapbook on both sides of the page, which can be a problem for the organizationally-challenged (which means me!) I find I do not always scrapbook in the order I want my pages to finally be, so strap-hinge albums are definitely not for me!
